The British were then struggling to find ways of keeping India from falling into chaos. In response, they passed a law called the Rowlatt Act in 1919. The Rowlatt Act allowed people to be tried without a jury and even imposed life sentences for minor offences such as speaking against the Government or protesting against policies that affected citizens negatively leading to large scale riots across India . Because of these draconian laws and the repressive nature of British rule, there was a growth of discontent and the spirit was taken up by Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. Singhs, Sukhdevs and Rajgrul believe that they were not fighting for power or revenge but for human justice. The three brothers took up arms to fight the British Raj which led to their deaths. The 1919 Wounded Knee Massacre was a bloody event between Native Americans and European Americans surrounding violence between two sides at Wounded Knee Creek and what happened afterward called Big Foot's War. The massacre was on December 29, 1890. This event brought an end to the Ghost Dance movement which was started by the Lakota Sioux on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The Ghost Dance movement predicted that Native Americans had to do penance or else they would be swept away by evil spirits. Every person was related to the other and no one got left behind. But some of them died of disease and starvation so this is why some people said that the European Americans murdered thousands of Native American men, women and children.
